the old neighborhood….8th st. between c and d …..I lived above Chicken George and the perpetual smell of french fries ….1981-1983…believe it or not but this neighborhood was too expensive and I ended up moving to williamsburg in 1984-1989 because it was the closest place to my favorite stomping grounds in the ever-capturing east village……we grow…the abandoned homes become filled with ambitious children….we are displaced and find the new treasures

Fall back friday… I met her at the Pyramid and asked her to perform in my window at Area . At some point , Kathlene was given the nickname  ”Ta-da”. I think it was around the time she decided  confronting her fear of men by working in a peep show on 42nd street and taking a shit after her dance …saying “Ta-dah” .Driving across 42nd st.  one nite in my tricked out rusty cutlass supreme , i saw the Marque billing  for “the shit woman” and I knew it was her they were talking about . She  def gave them a show….Uptown she had an entirely different audience and was known as the “white witch of Harlem” . She’s   kind, curious , beautiful no matter how hard she tried to not be and    had the ability to entertain in a way no one else has matched. Her presence made me question obscenity in this world. She taught me to gravitate towards everything I love no matter how odd ,  and to continue to live an interesting good life.

A lot of people wrote to me asking for more photos of Williamsburg in the 80’s … here is an art film James Mona directed while at SVA and we shot some of this in the  east village and some of it in Williamsburg. The music is written by Deee-lite …before Towa ..it was just the 2 of us  and pretty fun. Now…camp out .

1988 in my Williamsburg apt….the east village was too pricey even back then and I lost my apartment to a slumlord. Walking the barren streets  in that hood was never comfortable at night in those days and I did out run a few potential trouble men thru the dimly lit warehouse blocks . But always ready to jack my body…Girl I’ll house you…your’e in my hut now

Throwback thursdays….here is young Fidel  R.I.P with Perfidia….Fidel used to vogue as a member of the  Deee-lite live shows in 1988 . We used to perform in both hiphop clubs and House clubs  and there were a few occasions standing on the wings of the stage preparing to go on wondering if the butchie hiphop crowd could handle 2 vogueing queens prancing about in tights….but we never had a problem …not even once. Fidel died  much too young sadly from a chance stray bullet riccochet while walking down  the street . I’ve thought of him often and imagine  he’s vogueing 2 clouds above nine .  in one word  …Ovah
