1993 ! Stylin all the while. In the Mexican jungle…deep in the Yucatan  .. there are more than a 1000 pyramids mostly covered with jungle and many appear to be mountains. we drove around the entire Yucatan loop for  8 days thru Chiapas ,Aqua azul, palenque, tulum, chichinitza, and my favorites…the ones with no names…just a little wooden sign with a chalk marking of a pyramid shape . a guard with a smile  and no tourists in sight . that was the mystery to me . there were many . many stories there . a carnival fully in swing at 2 am  blasting techno - the teenagers clearly on the prowl in their sunday finest …..suits and big puffy 1st communion dresses under the ferris wheel….at the car rental they told me not to drive at night because “banditos”…is this jungle rave what they feared I’d really see ? it was odd hearing  techno in 1994 anywhere let alone in a remote mexican jungle . my peace and love fantasies of stargazing advanced technologists smacked me with the brutal reality of bloodletting fatcats who only made room for a few at the top of the pyramid looking down upon the crowd. like life, it’s complex and didactic and the creators are often overtaken by the sleighers….and the posers pose in between the pondering……hmmm…I wonder?

i just wanna hear a good beat…throwback thursdayzzz…the director showed up to the shoot on acid  and I was trying to tell him that he had to light black people differently ……!  he said…”dont worry lil’ girl” and patted me on the head !! I insisted on using a lot of strobe light but was surprised when the record label said they would not use the footage because of the strobe lights!!!  The president bob krasnow complained that Groove is in the heart “hurt his eyes” so i shouldnt have been so surprised when they refused to promote this video. we added special effects to save it but ..point is…we were lightyears beyond the record labels comprehension . My concept came from a dance scene from the Monkey’s head movie in which the dance flickered between Ying and Yang…depending on how you see a thing. Monkey’s head inspired both musically and visually.

Black history month….is every month in the age of information….we can break off the noses …and try to  burry the truth…but the eye of the universe is winking at us to let us know we can not deny the truths of where we ALL came from. Mother Africa….it’s in our DNA..what else were they trying to say when moving large stones that mirrored the sky ..?… I ponder . what’s burried  under the left paw of the great sphinx….I ponder …what power is the vibration of genuine love as opposed to fear ? One thing I learned about Venezulea  , whatever the USA media says about it’s politics…it is probably the rightwing corporate propaganda’s point of view  and I must search wider  for the truth. Why ? because the former president , Chavez snatched the privately owned oil companies and made them property of the state 12 years ago  because they failed to pay taxes.  This was such a bold move against the  1% that the privileged staged a coup and kidnapped Chavez but the guards eventually let the protestors in the palace and the people got their leader back. Under Chavez’ leadership, life improved for the masses and finally gave them a voice. When he died last year , the new president Maduro plans on using  the same humanitarian policies bringing up the people…….less kids eating out of the trash, securing shacks built on top of shacks up a mountain so they won’t topple from erosion, etc…  The news is polar opposite of US papers I’ve read. This is the reason I decided to go there myself …so when asked to deeejay …I jumped at the chance 4 years ago. The conservative privledged people complained that Chavez  wanted a 25 year term….and that sounds fascist…but once I saw the  level of poverty , i realized it would take 25 years  atleast to  bring Caracas out of these dreadful living conditions that the corporate greed and corruption  from before the Chavez era had caused.  Everywhere I went I saw support of Chavez except in the exclusive wealthy nite club where I played…who by the way..told me at the end….since you are a Chavista…we will let you live in poverty where you belong and refused to pay me !!! On another note……..when the promotor asks for a FUNK SET  they really mean hardcore minimal TECHNO ! ha ha ! These privledged kids I met where afraid to take me to the “ghetto” but I managed to go there and see for myself what they chose to shut out of their lives. ….anyway….when I hear about any social unrest  in Venezuela…. i turn to the U.K.’s Guardian to get a balanced picture about what’s going on there today…..and from what I gather it seems the country’s majority voted for the new leader, Maduro and his Chavezta policies ( for ALL the people) but  when he won there was a protest against him by the privileged class.  The votes were recounted and it became clear that Maduro did in fact win. A large demonstration of support was held for Maduro (in the picture above)…..however approx 1000 people , some say it’s only the rich people , disagreed and  prefer to  oust him . The small group of protestors, much like the oil industry backed coup which temporarily ousted Chavez years ago , are apparently using violence and  seem to prefer a fascist  leader over Maduro. The majority of people and surrounding countries want Maduro.  As I am living in NY…there is little chance to know the full story…but from reading the Guardian…and my own experience… let the majority of voters decide and keep Maduro in office.  this is my 2 cents. Don’t believe everything you read…including this…I’m not studying political science or history ..… but keep questioning reality , search to find the facts and make your own opinion before you decide what you’ll do. I’m going to the art museum before the Gaultier exhibit closes today. - lady miss Kier

Grayson Perry by Jonathan Yeo b. 1970 ! I went to his pottery exhibit while living in london ….like the fabric in his dress….as you looked closer at these seemingly everyday objects…there was a deeper conscious message that showed me he is a concerned member of the human race , courageous to call out bad behavior, and respectful of warm nurturing feminine power. Viva la Grayson Perry.

Celebrate the good grace of Harriet Tubman…She broke the chains of her own slavery & followed the north star  to pennsylvania. She  returned 19 times over ten years to rescue more than 300  enslaved people with the force of a train…a train on the underground railroad.   She lead  their way thru the woods from safe house to safe house  until they crossed the mason dixon line into freedom . She once overheard some white men discussing her wanted poster . No matter what ….she kept going . With her bravery , courage  and big heart , she became known as “Moses” . She also helped recruit men for John Brown’s Harpers ferry , struggled for women’s right to vote after the war , and set up a retirement home . U.S. history is black history . Every month is black history month
