P-funk ….they def made it last ……it might be cosmic sloppy out there on the road…but they deliver and still..there ain’t no party like a p-funk party cause a p-funk party don’t stop!  what other band can you name that plays 4 hour sets 200 times a year  ? no lip-stinkin here.  lady Miss Kier ….www.ladykier.com

Our second single was #35 on the billboard top forty chart and climbing, I went to a family reunion in Youngstown ,Ohio  and my relatives who had scattered to the far corners from all over asked me why our second single , after Groove Is In ThE HEART was only available in a black sleeve at  their local record stores ….just  a sticker with our name on it.

Since  I hired the artists and art-directed all of deee-lite’s releases…I knew my art was handed in weeks before print- time. I actually made the collage for this single sleeve myself ( front = 3 heads floating in outer space surrounded by planets…the back was my view of the entire world…….   so i  couldn’t understand why my ” managers” forgot to tell me and then threatened me  when I told them.

I was never paid as art director and always had a tiny  budget . the managers answer ” do you want me to hold your hand and do all your dirty laundry ?  i’ll throw you across the room if you come to me with every little problem” . I never spoke to him again. His partner in crime had an even lamer excuse and  refused to  take any responsibility . I went to the label myself and asked them to get the printing presses started…they eventually did…however it had dropped off the top forty charts by the time the art was printed with credits, etc…but  was number ONE on the dance chart  - no one seemed to care at the label and def not managment. So in truth…we actually had 2 top forty hits….not that charts ever mattered to me ..but they seem to matter  to a lot of  others for some dog forsaken reason . I give you…the “power of love”- lady miss kier …www.ladykier.com

sampled by Nu-groove records producers “33 1/3 queen” for their anthem SEARCHIN….here is the original and it’s from A GUY CALLED GERALD’s b-side  of Voodoo Ray on Warlock records, my bredren from Moss Side, Manchestor….and also the writer, producer of the infamous 808 pacific state , voodoo ray , and the grandfather of Jungle! His , alias, Ricky Rouge also released several acid house classics simultaneously with his early classic Jungle albums. long live A GUY CALLED GERALD- lady miss kier…www.ladykier.com

warning: SWEARY TRACK!…. I’ve been playing this classic MK remix for the last year at nearly every club and still not tired of it.. I never knew  it was a remix for Ethyl Meatplow back in the day…I wasn’t loving the vulgar lyrics back in the day either..but now I love them. Hmmmm…..i suppose i burst my …how do you say..dee-lusional bubble.- Lady Miss kier..www.ladykier.com

p.s. on a side note…right after I left Deee-lite , I asked MK, DJ Pierre, Murk Boys for some tracks and they all gave me some top tunes. i wrote around their trax and was really pleased until I played it to my record label and they said ” We will never release any house music from you” i asked why and their reply was “you are supposed to be somewhere between TLC and Alanis morrisett”!!!!!!!”

i hightailed it  to London right afterwards and became fully emerged into breakbeat/jungle/drum n bass….I honestly didn’t think the label would  refuse those trax as well ……..but they hated “jungle” even more than house , unfortunatly , I never sent my writing efforts back  to the house producers…( if they only heard how I turnt those trax out and understood why i never got back to them )

Rejection at majors was something deee-lite always faced…they told us they “hated” all 3 albums…the president of the co. that is…….but  when your’e in a band  it’s easier to put a united front and tell them “it’s done and we’re not changing a thing” but as a solo  artist ,who always preferred the writing process more than the spotlight….it gave me the liscence to write more ….  however…I always KNEW the label knew absolutly NOTHING about music …which is why I asked to break my contract 2 years later. But…..

NOPE- they refused to let me go…..so my sound got harder and harder ….my way of telling them ”  fuckin bitch cunt ,fuckin bitch cunt”    . i’ve been digging thru those old demos  and  once i pick up an ADAT machine…i’ll  finally be able to get those house  trax out. so  so  so much music to drop it’s sick. - lady Miss Kier …www.ladykier.com

There was a couple of years in the mid and late 80’s when we started hearing “hip-house” trax on the dancefloors . Rapping over dance trax were Doug lazy , Tyree Cooper, Ya Kid K, even Jungle Brothers ( Girl I’lll house you)  and a small handful of others. As both a  producer and dancer, I was  anticipating a huge explosion, as down tempo rap was already outselling Garth brooks and Whitney Houston while somehow maintaining the image of being “underground” while filling up  white suburbs and selling triple platinum like P.E. (even when banned from the radio) .

Well…once again..my positive enthusiasm didn’t pan out and  was only another  dream deferred ,as major labels continued to move away from  ”gay” house music stateside with it’s homophobic association with AIDS and HIV leaving little to no budget for promotion=radio play money. This classic track is a perfect example of the best of HIP-HOUSE.

Nearly 25 years later ,and finally artists like Azalia Banks,u.k.’s Wiley, etc… have finally figured out some dance music producers are the true underground and have  relentlessly continued to turn out track after track reguardless of  the “white boys club’ that has sprung up in recent years, ignoring the pioneers, re-naming it “EDM” and paying outrageous fees to crap djs who cator to 15 year olds on ecstasy-  that jersey shore style fist pump circuit meth music. Only the future knows what hiphouse’s life will be. “it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me”-Nina simone  Enjoy this classic- lady Miss Kier…www.ladykier.com

The Pharcyde almost passed me by…..when i heard they were coming to town to play on thursday…I knew i  had to get there though i’d been awake and working that day from 5:00 am - 8:30 pm   …but when they announced  they decided to perform their entire first album I knew their show would wake up my tired ass and they DID. They danced their butts off as always and brought the sell-out crowd  into a frenzy . They brought JOY back into hiphop during the “waive your guns in the airer” era.   This tour has 40 dates already in the US. Don’t sleep on this  show. I’ll post some pictures and videos as soon as possible. I love the Pharcyde…they havn’t lost a thing…on stage that is - lady Miss Kier …www.ladykier.com

Everybody knows Beyonce can really sing …so i didn’t understand why so many people were complaining that she lip-synced  for Obama’s second inauguration. For events this big, that are live…nearly everything is pre-recorded…JUST LIKE THE GRAMMIES. They are live recordings from the day before in 99% of the  cases and so are many tv shows ( competitions aside) wether the artist has a say or not. I think her press conferrence is a stroke of genius !! She def has the last word.- lady Miss Kier …www.ladykier.com

Ha! decades before I heard Jocko Henderson’s 50’s rapping, Clarence reid’s “dirty rap’ also in the late 50’s,before i heard The last poets in the 60’s , and  ”rappers delite” in ‘79 kicking off hiphop worldwide, Muhammad Ali had me mesmerised while watching tv as a tiny tot …i didn’t even know he was a boxer..but everytime I heard him being intervied ..it was in rhyme and for me..he was the original rapper. image from ;blackcontemporaryart-Lady miss Kier…www.ladykier.com
