The voter purges have resulted in roughly 60% of black voters in that city no longer being registered. That’s 41% of the city’s total votes in 2008. Some perspective on it from reddit user BiscuitCrisps:
You know, back when I lived in a majority-black voter ward, I got purged from the voter rollsevery single year. And every year, I had to trudge back to the registrar of voters, and show them a driver’s license and two months of utility bills to prove that I still lived where I was registered. It’s why I didn’t vote from 1999-2001. I just got sick of re-proving my residence over and over.
My first reaction was: “Fucking incompetent bureaucratic machine”
Then, I moved to a majority-white voter ward … I registeredonce. I haven’t been purged once in the past seven years.
I used to say: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”.
I’m now inclined to chalk the purging up to malice.
This whole thing is fucked.

Was it really that low budget film that motivated 100,000+ to rise up on the eve of 911 against the U.S.? of course not! or is that just what the neo-cons ( remember them?) want to scare us into believing . The film is no-budget cheap…how could it have been promoted on that level. I call B.S. i think it’s poopaghanda ( A word george clinton made up) ….who would take this low -production serious? I believe the real reason people are taking a stand against the U.S is because it was on the eve of 911 when afterwards we invaded two countries illegally ( there were no weapons of mass destruction were there?) and yet we killed over 150,000 innocent people. I’m not buying into this belief that the entire “axis of evil” hates the U.S.,however , sons and daughters of those slaughtered have reason to protest LOUD and in the street against the U.S. for killing their parents,neighbors,brothers, etc….for WHAT? The neo-cons are trying to use the old scare tactics again…but like a great man once said” we have nothing to fear but fear itself” and the U.S is not living in fear of taking a stand and believing fox news like we were under the Wbush era. After katrina’s aftermath neglect…we collectively woke up .there will always be a small group of religious fanatics in every country. These people have a reason to hate us but most of them don’t as these pictures show…just as most of the U.S. is against the wars, embarrassed we did it, glad Obama found Bin laden, and do not want us to invade Iran and are aware these are the reasons our economy is suffering today. what was it- a trillion a day we spent ..paying halliburton employees nearly double our own troops. We have awaken and we’re becoming media savvy . if we were still living in the bush reign of terror and fear..we would not be standing up all across the nation at Occupy everything events! sure…Obama let us down in some cases…but he’s not nearly as harmful as Romney who believes the middle class earns between 200,000. and 250,000. per year and that instead of 8% on welfare -he believes 47% are on welfare.we sleepwalk no more- lady miss kier

Deee-Lite’s Lady Kier Outs Charlie Crist

Matty’s on the Drive, celebrated its 4th anniversary with chatter about acceptance, drag queens , gays in baseball caps, and genuinely excited Lady Miss Kier superfans. The former Deee-Lite frontwoman brought a butt-ton of attitude, following her Saturday DJ set with a LIVE band performance of Deee-Lite favorites………………………………………………………..The show was moved inside thanks to hurricane Isaac which blew away the huge stage. The room was crowded, with her band in the corner of the bar. Halfway through her set, it became completely clear that the 90’s were about a million more times fun than the aughts. Much of that obnoxious nostalgia bred on the web is actually warranted……………………………..A group of heavy duty Kier admirers arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon. Matty stood before us and told us of the songstress’ upcoming world tour, kicking off in Vegas and new album . It took her a while to make her way to the stage through the packed room and fans’ pawing. ………………………………………………………
She jumped onto the stage, to screams of, “De gorgeous!” Kier has, as my friend said, “boobs and a a butt” highlighted by a magenta sequined bandeau under a silver body suit dripping with beads. Her crown resembled that of the Statue of Liberty. It was all you could hope Lady Kier would be wearing and more. She was even barefoot. Incredibly fab. Then she got funky……………………………………………………………She brought up twice, that we were going back 22 years with World Clique. Kier was backed by a bassist, a sax and keys man who performs with the P-Funk, a DJ, and two beautiful singers who came in with giant Afro wigs and church choir attire. Once their robes came off, it was like two glowing Dr. Seuss characters were jiving in our presence…………………………………………………….They kicked off with “ESP” and no one needed time to warm up. Deee-lites 3 albums have some of the best dance songs ever, ever, ever , and this is one of them. Then, things got political. Kier pretended to receive a phone call from former Governor Charlie Crist. She acted like she was talking to the former Republican about his ex-wife, inquiring then about his ex-boyfriend. That’s right. Outing Charlie Crist . Shit got real. Then she asked “Charlie Crist” on the “phone” for some gay rights. The room cheered, and somewhere in the universe, Charlie Crist blushed…………………………………………………The diva started having trouble hearing the track during “Good Beat” and sang, “I just wanna hear my good track”……………………….Two boas got passed around the front of the room. Lady Kier related a story to the crowd about moving to New York City at 17, looking for family, and finding it in clubs with, “misfits, outcasts, faggots, dykes, whores,” adding, “and I fit right in.” Crazed cheers. She said, “Love is thicker than water.” …………………………Closing out, Kier said unselfconsciously, “You’ve heard this song before, especially if you’ve been to a wedding .” The band kicked off with a reggae style “Groove Is in the Heart.” But eventually, the funky crew brought it back to the version we we’re all used to. The crowd swarmed around her for photos, taking pictures even when she was putting on her sneakers. when I made Manfred Thierry Mugler a re-recording of “what is Love” renamed “How do you say ….Mugler”…..for his show in 1992 …I never knew their website would play it 20 years later for more than 5 years thru out the 2000’s,long after the originator left the building. When Dj Michael Magnum ( one of ny’s finest) informed me of this free long-term endorsement , i enquired about the possibility of sending me a garment in exchange….House of Mugler’s press monkey asked me if i wanted a bottle of perfume instead ! “no thanks….Manfred already gave me 3”. Manfred was always so generous when he worked there, at the co. he started,developed consistently, and made famous. It’s a shame they are not anymore .
